Meet Dimitris Papakyriakopoulos, the Mind Driving the Next Wave of AI-Powered Healthcare
At CLC, we are proud to support students who dream big and work relentlessly to make a difference; and Dimitris Papakyriakopoulos is a shining example of that spirit. Our collaboration began during his undergraduate studies, when he turned to us for guidance in pursuing graduate education abroad. From the start, his drive to merge technology with meaningful social impact stood out. With a background in Software Engineering and Data Science, and a passion for innovation in healthcare, Dimitris has emerged as a bold thinker determined to reshape the future of medicine through AI. His journey reflects the power of vision, perseverance, and purpose; and we couldn’t be more excited to see what lies ahead for him.
Dimitris earned his Bachelor’s degree in Management Science and Technology with a major in Software Engineering and Data Science from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), while simultaneously pursuing three minors in Marketing, Finance, Financial Markets Trading at The American College of Greece (Deree) as a parallel student with a merit-based scholarship. His interdisciplinary academic path provided him with a unique blend of technical expertise and business insight, preparing him to tackle complex, real-world problems at the intersection of technology and healthcare. Building on this strong foundation, he is now continuing his academic journey with a Master’s in Computer Science at Columbia University.
Dimitris began building his professional path while still a student, gaining experience across diverse sectors including consulting, finance, and health-tech innovation. He interned at The Boston Consulting Group, where he contributed to organizational design, data governance, and internal innovation initiatives. He also served as Head of Research for the largest student-run investment fund in Europe, developing algorithmic tools for portfolio optimization and outperforming market benchmarks. At Eurobank Wealth Management, Dimitris explored structured products and led the development of a budgeting tool using Python. In parallel, he conducted advanced research at the Business Analytics Laboratory and the Management Science Laboratory of AUEB, focusing on machine learning applications in healthcare—including early detection of breast cancer, prediction of coronary artery disease, and generative AI for personalized investment portfolios.
In 2023, he founded the Better Smile Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting preventive dentistry and improving oral health awareness across Greece. As both Founder and Head of AI, he leads national outreach campaigns, school programs, and a pioneering research collaboration with Athens University’s Dental School to develop AI-powered diagnostic tools for dental diseases. With over 100 active members and growing recognition, the foundation is becoming a model for how grassroots innovation, public health, and technology can work hand-in-hand to serve communities.
Outside the professional and academic sphere, Dimitris has consistently demonstrated the same drive and discipline through his involvement in competitive sports. A former basketball player in the Olympiacos BC development teams—one of the most prestigious academies in Europe—he represented his club in national and international tournaments, competing among the best young talents on the continent. These formative years instilled in him a strong sense of teamwork, leadership, and resilience. Today, he continues to embrace an active lifestyle through the sport of Padel, combining his competitive spirit with a commitment to physical and mental well-being.
